PEANUTS BOOKS PUBLISHED IN SPANISH IN SPAIN
By Sonia Gil.
EN ESPAÑOL
Created October, 2001. March 11th, 2002 revision.
I am sure there must be more Peanuts books published in Spanish, but this is as complete a list as I could make.
There are also some more books published in Spain in Catalan, another language which is spoken into a region called Cataluña. They started publishing Peanuts books in Spain in the '60s before than any edition in Spanish. I haven't included them in this list because I think it would be too much extensive.
I haven't include Latin American editions either (except my reference to Nueva Imagen editorial in Mexico) because there must be a lot of them and I can't discover them at the moment.
So I only speak about the Peanuts books published in Spanish in Spain.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
a) The first series I know of that reprinted Peanuts comic strips in an acceptable order was published starting in 1980 by Lumen&Gasca editorial, with identical books published in México by Nueva Imagen editorial. The two publishers must have an agreement. It started from the strips from 1974 to the end of seventies, and then it went to the sixties strips. The titles I know of are the following:
- Aquí llega Carlitos. Comic strips from 1974.
- Que hay de nuevo, Carlitos?
- Hoy Es Tu Dia, Carlitos. Comic strips from 1975-76.
- ¿Qué te pasa, Carlitos? Comic strips from 1976.
- ???
- Snoopy es tu amigo, Carlitos. Comic strips from 09/07/77-03/30/78.
- Eres un buen chico, Carlitos. Comic strips from 1978.
- ???
- Afronta la vida, Carlitos. Comic strips from 08/17/64-02/06/65.
- Estamos a tu lado, Carlitos. Comic strips from 1964-65.
- Eres mi héroe, Carlitos. Comic strips from 1966.
- Confía en nosotros, Carlitos. Comic strips from 1966-67.
b) The second and most important series started publishing in 1980 and it is still running (the last was number 35). It has the comic strips from 1980 to 1998 (1999-00 is still awaiting publication). It has a wonderful chronological order except the reprint of the years 1980-82 which doesn't follow the proper order, but I think they are complete anyway. Grijalbo started publishing the series and in 1999 was sold to Norma editorial, the current publisher.
- Carlitos, qué grande eres.
- Carlitos, somos tus amigos.
- Carlitos, cuál es tu secreto.
- Carlitos, cuida a Snoopy.
- Carlitos, estás en forma.
- Carlitos y su pandilla.
- Carlitos, genio y figura.
- Carlitos, da en el clavo.
- Carlitos, no sueñes despierto.
- Carlitos, eres fantástico.
- Carlitos, sin complejos.
- Carlitos y su filosofía.
- Carlitos no sueltes la cometa.
- Carlitos marca la diferencia.
- Carlitos y la amistad.
- Carlitos cómo el primer día.
- Carlitos consejero de Sally.
- Carlitos inagotable.
- Carlitos, que lata de deberes.
- Carlitos, eres perfecto.
- Carlitos eres todo corazón.
- Carlitos, no seas ingenuo.
- Carlitos va de excursión.
- Carlitos no tiene la respuesta.
- Carlitos, te necesitamos.
- Carlitos, qué gran cabeza.
- Carlitos, muy especial.
- Carlitos, quién te quiere.
- Carlitos, todo un tipo.
- Carlitos, diviértete.
- Carlitos, necesita a Snoopy.
- Carlitos. Inseparables.
- Carlitos. Buenos amigos.
- Carlitos. A la aventura.
- Carlitos. A por ellos.
Most of these books are still in print. Each books contains approximately seven months of strips. They are exact chronologically reprinted books from the last twenty years. Americans can buy them on-line in: www.normacomics.com. Each book costs around $5 and the shipping $25.
They are mostly Italian books translated into Spanish:
- Series pulished by Mondadory España:
- Linus, soy un incomprendido, 1987.
- Lucy soy única, 1987.
- Snoopy, de escritor a piloto, 1987.
- Charlie Brown, siempre pierdo, 1987.
- Schoroeder: todo por la música.
- Sally, mi escuela es el mundo, 1989.
- Series published by Montena/Modibérica:
- Bienvenido, Charlie Brown, 1987.
- Bienvenido, Snoopy, 1987.
The set of books El gran libro de las preguntas y respuestas de Carlitos (1-12) published by Grijalbo/Dargaud in 1985 is the translation from the series of 5 books Charlie Brown's Super Books of Questions and Answers. You can still special order some volumes through Amazon.com.
They also produced a translation of Charlie Brown's Dictionary as "Gran Diccionario de Carlitos", published in
three volumes by Ediciones Junior.
I am sure there must be more educational English books translated into Spanish and published in the '80s.
- Carlitos y Snoopy (A boy named Charlie Brown), Ed. Burulán, 1971.
- The following set of six books published by Burulan in 1972:
- Es la gran calabaza, Carlitos (It´s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown).
- Es Navidad, Carlitos (A Charlie Brown Christmas)
- Estás enamorado, Carlitos (You´re in Love, Charlie Brown).
- Snoopy es tu perro, Carlitos (He´s Your Dog, Charlie Brown).
- Fue un corto verano, Carlitos (It was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown).
- Somos tu equipo, Carlitos (Charlie Brown´s All-Stars).
- ¿Por qué, Charlie Brown, por qué? (Why, Charlie Brown, Why?), published by Junior S.A., 1983.
